Conrad’s Fate, by Diana Wynne Jones

One more book in the Chrestomanci series.

It goes back to when Christopher Chant was a still a teenager – a teenager whose personality reminded me too much both of James Potter and Howell Jenkins. It made me realise why no other book by Jones has yet surpassed Howl’s Moving Castle in my opinion.

Anyway… this one is centred in Conrad, a twelve year old boy who is exploited by a greedy uncle, ignored by a seemingly crazy mother and only cared for by an older sister – till the day she leaves.

Conrad moves to a manor, where he has to work only as long as it takes him to murder an evil magician who is rumoured to reside there.

I read it in less than 12 hours, just as a break from Celestine Prophecy (which is a rather challenging text to my personality) and fulfilled more than just its purpose.

My second favourite book by Jones so far.
