The note said:  SOMEONE IN THIS CLASS IS A WITCH. It was written in capital letters in ordinary blue ballpoint, and it had appeared between two of the geography books Mr. Crossley was marking.

Obviously, Mr. Crossley panics. It's not easy living in a universe where witchcraft grows as though on trees, but it is strictly illegal just to talk about it.

Said note triggers some very strange events in Larwood House and a witch hunt starts. We follow Charles, Nan, Nirupam, Brian and Estelle, among others, as they try to find a way out of the many troubles they find themselves in.

As most of Wynne Jones’ book, it's entertaining and unpretentious. It's no Howl’s Moving Castle, but I loved it!
